From Idea to Impact: Why OneAnother.Community Exists #MomentsMatter

Five years of learnings

By Lisa Hollinshead, Founder

Right now, it’s Loneliness Awareness Week in Australia (4–10 August 2025), and this year’s theme, #MomentsMatter, resonates deeply with why I created OneAnother.Community. In a world where connection is often measured by likes or follows, the campaign reminds us that it’s not the grand gestures that heal loneliness, it’s the small ones: a genuine hello, a moment of being seen, a space made safe. A simple spark that quietly says, “You matter here”

I’ve always believed in the power of connection. But it wasn’t until I experienced the depths of isolation myself that I truly understood how vital it is, not just as a nice-to-have, but as a lifeline. When it’s a real lived experience of feeling lonely, it’s a feeling you don’t want to be ‘stuck in’ ever again.

OneAnother.Community was born out of a moment in my life where, despite being surrounded by people, I felt completely alone. The pandemic had just hot. I was navigating single motherhood, trying to keep up appearances, juggling the chaos of life, work, and healing from things I hadn’t fully faced. The weight of it all was heavy. And I kept thinking, if I’m feeling this way, how many others are too?

That question stayed with me.

The pandemic and my flight home from Europe being grounded was the catalyst, but stemmed from a feeling I’d be experience for a while. So, I built something. Not just an idea, but a platform. A space where people could connect in ways that matter. A way to donate time, skills, or kindness. A place where purpose, not perfection, drives the value we give and receive.

Over the past five years building OneAnother.Community, I’ve learned more than I ever could have imagined. I’ve learned that tech means nothing without heart. That building a platform is one thing, but building trust, real connection, and community? That’s the work. I’ve seen moments of magic, and I’ve also made mistakes. But every step has brought us closer to what this truly needs to be: a space where people show up for one another in real, meaningful ways. Now, as I take back the reins with renewed purpose and full clarity, I’m applying everything I’ve learned to this next chapter. We’re doubling down on impact, simplifying how people connect, and amplifying the power of small acts to shift culture. This isn’t just a rebuild, it’s a rebirth. And I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.

OneAnother.Community exists for the person who needs help but doesn’t know how to ask.
For the one who wants to give back but doesn’t know where to start.
For the workplaces that want to give their people more than a salary, a sense of meaning.
For the single mum. For the new grad. For the expat. For the retiree. For the lonely. For the lost.

For you. And for me.

We’re building something bigger than a platform, we’re creating the Good Human Economy. A world where kindness is measured, where purpose is a currency, and where doing good doesn’t just feel good, it connects us to something deeper.

Since launching, we’ve seen volunteers give hundreds of hours of their time. We’ve partnered with charities doing incredible things, and companies who want to walk the talk on purpose and people. And the best part? We’re just getting started.

This week, during Loneliness Awareness Week, I’m reminded why I pressed go on this idea in the first place. Because no one should ever feel like they have to face the world alone.

With OneAnother, you don’t.

And if you’re still reading this, maybe today is the day you join us. We have so much to offer over the coming months, and we can wait to share them with you!

With kindness,
